Beware of fakes

The huge success of ghd styling irons has made them a lucrative target for counterfeiters. Please beware of fakes when looking to purchase a ghd product.

While they can look very similar to the real thing, fake ghd stylers are often not just poorly made and short-lasting but dangerous, carrying with them the risk of hair damage or injury from electric shocks or burns. See this news story from the BBC for news of a police seizure in July 2008 of several dangerous straighteners.

Steps to take when purchasing

ghd is investing heavily in the prevention of the illegal trade of counterfeits, but please read the following steps before purchasing a ghd styling iron:

  1. The best way to ensure you receive an authentic product is to purchase from an approved website such as this one (displaying the "verified by ghd" button), from an approved retailer or from ghd's own site at www.ghdhair.com.
  2. Never buy from a market or car boot sale.
  3. Ebay and similar auction websites are full of fakes. If buying from these sites please be aware that there is no guarantee of authenticity. Counterfeits are especially common from addresses in the Far East, but can come from anywhere.

If you think you purchased a fake

If you think you've bought a fake, contact the seller for a refund. Also, as it is illegal to sell counterfeit products, you should contact your local trading officer and also ghd themselves so they can take action against the seller.
